Investigate What are tangrams? Why are they interesting? How are they used (HINT: Think like a teacher!)? What is their history? You could easily include a clear reference to an AOI here!
I recommend the following three sites to learn more about tangrams:
Tangrams:http://www.tangrams.ca/
Cyberchase: http://pbskids.org/cyberchase/games/area/tangram.html
NCTM Tangram Puzzles: http://standards.nctm.org/document/eexamples/chap4/4.4/
While you are checking out web sites, have a look at the wide variety of shapes you can make with tangram pieces. You might even print out a set, cut the pieces out and make some by hand (really, this is a very good way to learn about tangrams!).
Design Brief Revise a Flash template so that it ends in a different tangram shape. The template creates one tangram shape, but you will change it to create another one of your choice. You are strongly recommended to use a final shape that you find on a tangram web site or in a tangram book – it is better than making up your own.
Design Specification Using the information above and your ideas, you should write your own design specification. Here is an example: I will create a tangram of a [name of shape] starting from a square. It will have various colours and it will be a recognizable tangram shape.I will use the template provided by the teacher and Flash 4. Remember, your design specification should be “testable”; that means that in the Evaluate section, you should be able to see if you have succeeded in each point of the design specification.
